I just got a netbook and I have to say it’s pretty sweet. However, firefox takes up a lot of screen estate with the tool bars, and how often do you really need them? Sure you can get rid of the bookmarks toolbar but the nav bar and the menu bar are annoying.
Enter the hide extensions — specifically Hide Menubar and Hide Navigation Bar. These two extensions reclaim a lot of real estate. Once they’re installed, hit F2 to toggle the nav bar and alt to toggle the menu bar. Awesome.

Look Ma, no menus!

You have to be kidding me. They’re seriously trying to claim that being geographically close to Russia means you have foreign policy experience. Wow. That’s like saying you can learn math by putting the textbook under your pillow at night. She didn’t even have a passport until last year.
Ms. Palin appears to have traveled very little outside the United States. In July 2007, she had to get a passport before she visited members of the Alaska National Guard stationed in Kuwait, according to her deputy communications director, Sharon Leighow. She also visited wounded troops in Germany during that trip. (NY Times)
And she’s supposed to take over for McCain if he becomes incapacitated? I can only hope that people are paying attention to see this crap as it really is.

Woot! The Google web browser – Chrome is public! http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2008/09/fresh-take-on-browser.html
Chrome is nice, and should be available for download Tuesday. This is actually the worst part of working at Google, knowing what’s coming out and not being able to say a thing about it. Anyway, one less secret to keep! Grab it tomorrow, send feedback.

Boredom + Image Editor + Cafe Press -> new Cafe Press Store.
I’m not exactly sure why it struck me to create a Cafe Press storefront. Something just called out to me that the world needed another two mug designs; one small, one large, both geeky.
Or maybe I just need sleep.

They’re making a Max Payne movie staring Mark Wahlberg to be released Oct 17.
Looking at the trailer it seems to be suitably over the top. Awesome.

Al Gore to place infant son in rocket to escape dying planet. The guys over at The Onion are evil, but hysterical. A couple choice quotes:
Al Gore—or, as he is known in his own language, Gore-Al—placed his son, Kal-Al, gently in the one-passenger rocket ship [...] “On his new planet, Kal-Al’s Earth physiology will react to the radiation of a differently colored sun, causing him to develop abilities far beyond those of mortal men,” political analyst Sig Schuster said. “He will be faster than a speeding Prius, stronger than the existing Superfund program, and able to leap mountains of red tape in a single bound. These superpowers will sustain him in his never-ending battle against conservatives, wealthy industrialists, and other environmental supervillains.”
They truly have no shame. If only they could have tied a WALL•E reference in as well.

First! Well, first post on my third blog. Does that still count as first? I’ll let the meme guys sort it out. My previous two tries made it for a few months then sputtered out. Here’s to try number 3!
So what should you expect from here? I’m a developer interested in cooking, travel, politics and all around enjoying life. As such I’ll be posting mostly dev topics + commentary on the rest. Great but why subject the world to another blog? There are so many out there, who cares about this one? Well, I do. Hopefully others will too.
