So I recently picked up You Can Draw in 30 Days: The Fun, Easy Way to Learn to Draw in One Month or Less and started going through it. Day two and it’s going well. I decided to post the progress I make on it.
Lesson 0: See where you’re starting from
The first thing you’re supposed to draw is a house, a plane, and a bagel (a bagel??). My bagel looks like a frosted donut. Well, at least any progress I make will be an improvement!
Lessons 1 & 2: Spheres!
Okay, so the author teaches you more than just drawing spheres but the exercise is to draw a single sphere, apply shading, then smooth it out a bit. That + theory is lesson 1. As a bonus, you’re encouraged to draw something less spherical, like an apple. Two attempts in and the second one (the bigger one) is clearly better.
Lesson 2 contains a little more theory and overlapping spheres to create dimension. Suddenly, 3D! That was pretty straight forward and sets you up well for Lesson 3, Advanced Spheres. Okay, sure, that sounds lame but I finished up with something I’m pretty proud of, which I’ll post about tomorrow. For now, here’s a picture of what I did for lessons 1 & 2.
